Taking some simple safety measures can help avoid being exposed to harmful chemicals at work. First, be thoughtful about the cleaners to be used. Select the appropriate cleaners to get the job done, dilute harsher chemicals per instructions, and never mix cleaners together. For example, if something can be thoroughly washed, with soap, don’t use a harsher cleaner like bleach.

Next, be aware of the surroundings when using stronger chemicals. Be sure other employees are not going to be exposed, and make sure to close containers when they are not being used. For example, before using  bleach, make sure there is good air circulation.

Finally, make good decisions when handling chemicals. Follow use instructions, wear protective clothing according to facility practices, and pour chemicals from a low height to avoid splashes.
